Items bearing the image of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un were discovered along the coast of South Korea’s Jeju Island, but police said no national security concerns were identified.

According to the Jeju Provincial Police Agency on Monday, a resident reported finding North Korean-related items, including a small object featuring Kim’s photo and a North Korean national flag, at Hamdeok Beach in Jeju City around 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Authorities said the object was about the size of a palm and had been significantly corroded by seawater.

After examining the materials, police concluded they were commemorative goods produced in North Korea and found no evidence suggesting espionage or other security-related concerns.

Investigators believe the items likely drifted to Jeju carried by ocean currents.

In a separate incident on March 4, a wooden boat containing fragments of what appeared to be a North Korean newspaper was also found off Udo Island near Jeju. Police likewise determined there were no security concerns related to that case.
