2026: A New Chapter in China-North Korea Relations – What You Need to Know

North Korea warmly welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Pyongyang, emphasizing the strengthening of the North Korea-China friendship.

The party’s official newspaper Rodong Sinmun published an editorial on Monday titled, We Heartily Welcome the Envoy of Friendship from the Chinese People, stating that the people warmly welcome Comrade Xi, who visits us again, carrying the deep affection of our brotherly Chinese people.

The newspaper reported that today, the North Korea-China friendship is evolving to a new high level based on the strong ties between the leaders of the two parties and countries. It added that it will continue to stand firmly with the Chinese comrades in advancing the socialist cause and safeguarding peace and security in the region and the world.

On the same front page, the newspaper featured a contribution by President Xi titled, Inheriting the Past, Pioneering the Future, and Advancing Together Through Trials to Engrave a New Chapter of Traditional China-DPRK Friendship. The article emphasized that North Korea and China must maintain the excellent tradition of high-level exchanges between our two parties and countries, visiting each other frequently like relatives. It noted that China will work with North Korea to elevate their relationship to a strategic level, fostering greater development in line with the times.

Page 2 praised Kim Jong Un for his dedication to the people. It highlighted his efforts in selecting the prime location for the Pyongyang Daedonggang Seafood Restaurant by the Daedong River, guiding the design plans, and addressing issues to ensure successful construction progress, mentioning his commitment and hard work.

The third page reported on the conclusion of the 2026 National Youth Science Fantasy Model and Invention Exhibition. It also mentioned that the men’s final of the 11th National Youth Soccer Championship took place on the 7th at Kim Il Sung Stadium. Additionally, it covered a birthday celebration for members participating in the 80th anniversary event of the Korean Children’s Union held on the same day.

Page 4 featured a letter from the Taekwondo coach of the Ryongaksan Taekwondo Team, sent by the Korean Taekwondo Committee. The coach emphasized patriotism, stating that only those who deeply love the national flag can feel the infinite strength it provides.

An article on page 5 titled, Nationwide Rice Planting Concludes at the Optimal Time, reported that the most critical agricultural process that determines the fate of the year’s harvest has been carried out with quality at the optimal time, providing a solid foundation to achieve this year’s meaningful grain production goals.

Another article titled, The Root of Moderation, stated that all irresponsible and erroneous practices, such as opportunism, formalism, and self-preservation, will be eradicated, accelerating the advance toward a new outlook.

On page 6, the newspaper promoted that medical officials at the Pyongyang Medical University Hospital treated children suffering from difficult diseases. It reported that the high level of skill developed through painstaking research and consistent effort has opened new avenues for many disabled children, and the dedicated care has yielded positive results.
