Chinese President Xi Jinping paid tribute at the Sino-North Korean Friendship Tower on the second day of his visit to North Korea. Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of North Korea’s Workers’ Party, was accompanied by First Lady Ri Sol Ju during the event.

The Workers’ Party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on Wednesday that Comrade Xi Jinping laid a floral wreath at the Friendship Tower on Tuesday. The ribbon on the wreath bore the inscription that the martyrs of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army will be immortalized.

The newspaper detailed that Kim guided Xi through the tower, showcasing historical materials, photographs, and paintings that depicted the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army soldiers. These exhibits highlighted their true internationalist spirit and fraternal camaraderie as they rushed to the Korean front, fighting shoulder to shoulder with the Korean people and wholeheartedly assisting in post-war reconstruction.

Page 2 reported on Xi’s visit to the Party Central Cadre School, where he toured the campus with Kim. They observed a lecture on party policies in Hall No. 3. Xi praised the school’s organization, noting its role in cultivating future leaders for the socialist ruling party. He commended its focus on instilling the Workers’ Party of Korea’s innovative ideological theories while prioritizing theoretical, spiritual, and practical training for party cadres.

To commemorate the visit, they planted a tree at the Party Central Cadre School. The accompanying monument reads that the Sino-North Korean friendship will forever flourish, tree planted by Comrades Kim and Xi on June 9, 2026.

Page 3 covered Kim’s visit to Xi’s lodgings at the Kumsusan Guest House, where they engaged in conversation while strolling through the gardens. The paper reported that Kim and Ri Sol Ju hosted a luncheon for Xi and Peng Liyuan, which proceeded in a consistently warm and cordial atmosphere.

The fourth page reported Xi and Peng’s departure by private jet on Tuesday afternoon. The newspaper described a farewell scene at the airport, with crowds of people and children gathered. It stated that Xi, guided by Kim, reviewed an honor guard of the Korean People’s Army upon arrival.

Page five featured Xi’s thank-you message to Kim. In it, Xi expressed deep gratitude for the grand and warm welcome extended by Kim, Ri, and the North Korean people to the Chinese delegation. He stated that this reception fully demonstrated the profound friendship between the two parties and nations, conveying his most heartfelt appreciation.

The same page reported that graduating students from Chosun University, affiliated with the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), arrived in Pyongyang the previous day. It also noted the return of athletes Park Sul-kyung, Kang Ryun-hee, and Kim Hye-sung from the 2026 New Taipei Open International Track and Field Championships.

The sixth page covered the 32nd Congress of the Korean Democratic Women’s Union in Japan, held at Chongryon’s central hall in Tokyo. Delegates, including Park Gu-ho, First Vice Chairman and Organization Director of Chongryon’s Central Standing Committee, and Vice Chairwoman Kang Choo-ryun, participated in the congress.
