North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sent a congratulatory message and flower basket to Chinese President Xi Jinping on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party, as Pyongyang and Beijing reaffirmed their close ties through commemorative events and exchanges on party-building experience.

The Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party, published the full text of Kim’s message on the front page on the 1st.

In the message, Kim said that “continuously strengthening and developing the friendship between China and the DPRK centered on socialism is a firm and unwavering position of our Party and government.”

He specifically referred to the recent North Korea–China summit held in Pyongyang, describing it as “a historic occasion that once again confirmed the will to further strengthen comradely friendship and trust, and to more powerfully advance the socialist construction and traditional friendly relations of the two countries.”

He added that “the absolute superiority of DPRK–China relations is firmly guaranteed by the leadership of the Party,” and expressed willingness to “continue elevating and developing the DPRK–China friendship and cooperative relations, the common wealth of the peoples of the two countries, in line with the requirements of the times.”

The newspaper also reported that the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea delivered a congratulatory flower basket to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

On page two, it highlighted a reception held the previous day at the Chinese Embassy in Pyongyang marking the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

Chinese Ambassador to North Korea Wang Yajun said in a speech that Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un have held seven historic meetings in the new era and maintained close strategic communication, adding that both sides will deepen strategic dialogue and exchanges on governance experience to promote stable development of bilateral relations.

In response, Kim Song Nam, director of international affairs of the Workers’ Party of Korea, said the leaders reaffirmed during the Pyongyang summit their commitment to developing traditional DPRK–China relations into “a model relationship between socialist states that is the most powerful and strategic in nature.”

The Rodong Sinmun also reported that a party-building experience exchange seminar held prior to the reception allowed both sides to share governance practices and reaffirm their intent to strengthen cooperation on the shared path toward socialism, independence, and justice.
