The SNT Group, a hidden champion in the K-defense industry, is set to participate in the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (ADEX) 2025, kicking off on October 20 at Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) in Goyang, South Korea. The group is renowned for producing the K-series small arms, including the K2 rifle, a familiar sight to many service members.

The group aims to captivate international clients by showcasing its subsidiaries: SNT Dynamics, the only domestic manufacturer of automatic transmissions for tracked vehicles, and SNT Motive, which specializes in small-caliber firearms.

At the event, SNT Dynamics will exhibit key components of major weapon systems. These include a 1,700-horsepower powerpack for the K2 tank, a 120mm (about 4.8 inches) mortar system mounted on a light tactical vehicle (LTV), a turret-mounted machine gun system for the light armed helicopter (LAH), an electric drive unit (EDU), an electrified axle (eAxle), the K6 machine gun, and an automatic transmission for the K9 self-propelled howitzer.

The EDU and eAxle are particularly noteworthy, as they are applicable to next-generation electric-powered tactical vehicles. The EDU, a critical component in electric vehicles, transfers energy from batteries to wheels via motors and gearboxes. SNT’s products have gained recognition through their use in General Motors’ Bolt EV, with over 160,000 units sold worldwide. The eAxle, designed for next-generation electric tactical vehicles, is an eco-friendly, high-efficiency electric powertrain that integrates a motor, inverter, and gearbox.

The 1,700-horsepower powerpack—the heart of the tank—combines SNT Dynamics’ automatic transmission with an HD Hyundai Infracore engine. It has been exported to Turkey since last year and will be incorporated into the fourth production run of K2 tanks next year. SNT Dynamics’ EST15K automatic transmission is a world first for tracked vehicles, featuring six forward and three reverse gears. It incorporates cutting-edge technologies in hydraulic control, braking, steering, electronic control, and shifting.

SNT’s automatic transmission is also slated for use in the K9 self-propelled howitzer. This transmission has proven its mettle in the global defense market, with over 3,000 units produced. It is a best-seller used by more than ten countries, including Poland, Turkey, India, Norway, and Australia.

The LTV-mounted 120mm (about 4.8 inches) mortar system enhances the capabilities of the existing 120mm (about 4.8 inches) self-propelled mortar while leveraging the LTV’s superior mobility. This combination increases its versatility and survivability across various combat scenarios. Its stable and rapid operation in coastal and sandy terrains makes it particularly valuable for Marine Corps operations and coastal defense missions.

The 20mm (about 0.8 inches) turret-mounted machine gun system (TGS) for the light armed helicopter (LAH) is a triple-barreled machine gun that synchronizes with the pilot’s helmet for precise and smooth firing, earning high marks for performance.

At the exhibition, SNT Motive will showcase its full lineup of small-caliber firearms, including the latest models and production items. This display aims to cement its position as a global leader in small-caliber firearm manufacturing. The company will also announce collaborative ventures with renowned international defense firms.

The STSR23 7.62mm (about 0.3 inches) semi-automatic sniper rifle is engineered to boost infantry squad capabilities. It offers four barrel length options – 16, 18, 20, and 24 inches (about 41, 46, 51 and 61 cm) – to suit various operational needs.

While maintaining the accuracy of the K-14 sniper rifle, the STSR23 transitions from a bolt-action to a semi-automatic gas piston system, allowing riflemen to serve as snipers when necessary. It features an ergonomic pistol grip and ambidextrous controls for the charging handle, magazine release, and bolt release.

Developed for special operations, the STSM21 9mm (about 0.4 inches) submachine gun improves upon its predecessor’s user-friendliness. It boasts a modular design that facilitates easy replacement of the barrel and receiver, with the receiver constructed from a lightweight yet durable material. The handguard incorporates M-Lok rails for weight reduction and accessory attachment, while its delayed blowback system minimizes recoil, thereby enhancing accuracy and ease of use.

The STP9 9mm pistol is a new special operations sidearm. Although it uses the same 9mm rounds as the K5 pistol, it employs a hammerless striker-fired mechanism. In line with modern firearm trends, it features a Picatinny rail for various attachments and a simplified design that increases component longevity.

The STSR20 12.7mm anti-materiel sniper rifle was developed to meet the growing demand for long-range, high-power rifles. It is designed for precision strikes against vehicles and light armor, tailored specifically to Korea’s unique terrain and operational requirements.

SNT Motive plans to exhibit prototypes aimed at enhancing the K4 40mm (about 1.6 inches) high-speed grenade launcher currently in service. The company will also showcase standalone products such as the STGL40 grenade launcher, the K2C1 rifle-compatible K201C1 grenade launcher, and the K1AC1—an improved receiver for the K1A submachine gun. This lineup of new developments and current production items is designed to meet diverse domestic and international demands.

An SNT spokesperson stated that they’re leveraging our precision machinery expertise and next-generation electronic control technology to drive innovation and create value. The ongoing efforts aim to bolster the Republic of Korea’s military capabilities through advanced defense technology and secure a competitive edge for K-defense in the global market.
