Sookmyung Women’s University announced on Monday that it had signed a partnership agreement with Google Cloud at its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Center in Yongsan, Seoul, on March 27.

The collaboration aims to foster AI talent with practical skills and bolster research and administrative capabilities.

Sookmyung plans to establish a robust framework for enhancing AI education and research, centered around its AI Center launched last year. In partnership with Google Cloud, the university will develop and implement AI curricula, promote AI research, and modernize its administrative systems.

The university is ramping up its AI-driven educational innovation by introducing a mandatory AI course for all students and expanding AI-integrated courses tailored to various majors. This agreement will enable Sookmyung to broaden AI applications across all university domains, including education, research, and administration.

Ruth Sun, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Google Cloud Korea, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, saying that she is thrilled to join Sookmyung Women’s University in shaping its future as it marks its 120th anniversary. They’re committed to working closely with the university to help it set new benchmarks in global AI education through this transformative initiative.

President Moon Si-yeon of Sookmyung Women’s University stated that in this era where AI is fundamentally reshaping education, the mission is to nurture out-thinkers who drive change by asking new questions, rather than simply adhering to existing norms. Through the collaboration with Google Cloud, it aims to cultivate female AI leaders who will make a positive impact on society while upholding human-centric values.
