LG Electronics is bolstering its position in the global organic light-emitting diode (OLED) television (TV) market with the introduction of its ultra-premium LG Signature brand, featuring a groundbreaking model just 0.9 cm thick.

The company announced on Wednesday that it will roll out its next-generation wallpaper TV, the LG Signature OLED W (model W6), starting in South Korea before expanding to international markets.

This cutting-edge product boasts an incredibly slim profile, measuring a mere 0.9 cm in thickness – comparable to a single pencil. LG achieved this wallpaper-like design by miniaturizing key components, including the panel, power board, main board, and speakers, allowing the TV to sit flush against the wall.

The TV incorporates wireless transmission technology that has earned the world’s first True Wireless Lossless Vision certification from TÜV Rheinland, a global testing and certification body. This innovation enables real-time transmission of 4K resolution images at a 165 Hz refresh rate without any quality loss or lag. Higher refresh rates result in smoother motion, enhancing the viewing experience.

At the heart of this latest OLED model is the 3rd Generation Alpha 11 (α11 4K Gen3) artificial intelligence (AI) processor. With a neural processing unit (NPU) that’s 5.6 times more powerful than its predecessor, it delivers crystal-clear picture quality even during fast-paced scenes.

The TV’s Dual Super Upscaling feature processes two types of AI upscaling simultaneously, optimizing color, contrast, and overall picture quality. This allows viewers to enjoy lower resolution content in stunning 4K clarity.

LG has also integrated ultra-low reflection display technology to minimize glare, along with a suite of AI features including an AI concierge, AI search, AI chatbot, and voice identification (ID) functionality.

In a parallel innovation, LG Electronics is unveiling the world’s first wireless and transparent TV, the LG Signature OLED T. This revolutionary model allows users to switch between a traditional black screen and a transparent display with a simple remote control command. The black screen mode delivers OLED’s signature 4K quality for movies and games, while the transparent mode reveals the space behind the screen, creating an open atmosphere and offering unique viewing experiences akin to augmented reality.

The LG Signature OLED W is priced at 105 million KRW (about 68,200 USD) for the 77-inch model and 160 million KRW (about 103,900 USD) for the 83-inch version. The LG Signature OLED T starts at 100 million KRW (about 64,900 USD) for the 77-inch model.

OLED technology, which allows each pixel to emit its own light without requiring a backlight, is widely recognized for its superior contrast and color reproduction compared to traditional liquid crystal display (LCD) displays that rely on separate light sources.

LG Electronics aims to cement its leadership in the OLED TV market by leveraging its advanced technological capabilities. According to market research firm Omdia, LG Electronics dominated the global OLED TV market in the first quarter of this year, capturing a 50.5% share in shipments and 47.7% in revenue.

Park Hyung-se, President of LG Electronics’ Home Entertainment Company, stated that the LG Signature OLED W and LG Signature OLED T represent the pinnacle of LG’s TV technology. It’s committed to maintaining our leadership in the premium TV market through continuous technological innovation.
