LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo is set to meet with NVIDIA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jensen Huang in Silicon Valley next week. This encounter comes just two months after their previous meeting in Seoul on June 8.
Industry sources revealed on Thursday that Chairman Koo will convene with CEO Huang at NVIDIA’s California headquarters. This marks Koo’s first return to Silicon Valley since his visit in April, four months ago.
The two executives last met on June 5 at LG Group’s headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul. During their hour-long private discussion, they outlined plans to expand collaboration across various sectors, including robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, and autonomous driving.
Following that meeting, Koo informed reporters that Jensen invited me to California. He intends to explore further collaborative opportunities there.
Later that month, on June 22, a delegation of over 30 LG Group executives, including LG Electronics President Ryu Jae-cheol, LG CNS President Hyun Shin-kyun, and LG Science Park CEO Jung Soo-hun, visited NVIDIA’s headquarters.
As Koo embarks on his U.S. visit, speculation mounts about potential announcements of concrete partnership initiatives. During the second-quarter earnings call on July 30, LG Electronics Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Kim Chang-tae hinted at the possibility of a strategic alliance with NVIDIA in the AI platform ecosystem.
In the realm of physical AI, the two companies agreed in June to jointly develop a reference robot based on NVIDIA’s open-source robot foundation model, Isaac GR00T. LG Electronics is poised to engage in strategic collaboration throughout NVIDIA’s next-generation robot development process.
The tech giants are also closely cooperating in smart manufacturing. Their goal is to create an automated factory by integrating LG Electronics’ vast 770 terabytes of manufacturing and production data with NVIDIA’s digital twin platform, Omniverse. Digital twin technology creates virtual replicas of real-world facilities and equipment.
Another point of interest is whether LG Group’s cooling technology will be incorporated into NVIDIA’s AI data centers. LG Electronics recently announced that some models of its 600-kilowatt cooling distribution units (CDUs) have received certification for NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure.
CDUs are crucial in managing heat by supplying coolant to server components like graphic processing units (GPUs) and central processing units (CPUs). LG Electronics is aggressively expanding its global market presence with a comprehensive cooling solution for data centers, encompassing CDUs, chillers, and air conditioning systems.
The meeting may also address the acquisition of NVIDIA’s latest Blackwell GPUs to enhance LG AI Research’s proprietary AI model, EXAONE. Reports suggest LG Group plans to procure 10,000 Blackwell GPUs, with discussions likely to cover specific deployment timelines and potential additional orders.
