After a four-year hiatus, Shift Up’s mobile game Destiny Child is making a comeback under Com2us. While preserving the original’s universe and narrative, the gameplay will transition to a 2D idle role-playing game (RPG). Industry sources reported on Wednesday that Com2us unveiled the official title and teaser site for Destiny Child: Assemble, commemorating the original game’s 10th anniversary. The new iteration is slated for a global release in the first half of 2027. Destiny Child, a subculture collection RPG, debuted in 2016 under Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kim Hyung-tae’s leadership. It gained a devoted following across 164 countries, including North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia, featuring over 500 characters and distinctive live 2D animations. However, the service unexpectedly ceased in 2023 after nearly seven years, with Shift Up citing sustainability challenges.

Com2us subsidiary Tikitaka Studio is developing the new title, with Com2us handling global distribution. The game will retain the original’s storyline and universe while introducing both familiar side stories and fresh narratives. It aims to blend character-specific stories with collection and development mechanics, simplifying gameplay through an idle structure. The title Assemble symbolizes the reunion of the Demon Lord Candidates, a term for players in the original game. The teaser video showcases the blooming of the Resurrection Flower, a sacred object representing the IP’s revival. Development has been ongoing for about two years. Tikitaka Studio announced a global publishing deal for Destiny Child: Assemble (then known as Project D) in September 2024. Com2us followed with an official announcement in November, confirming plans for an idle RPG using the Destiny Child intellectual property (IP). While initially slated for release in 2025, the launch has been pushed to the first half of 2027. The revival has been largely welcomed by existing fans, though some express concerns about the shift to the idle game genre, which often polarizes opinions. Many are curious to see how the original’s unique illustrations and animations will translate to this new format. A Com2us spokesperson stated that it’s targeting a global iOS and Android launch in the first half of 2027. It’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes insights through four-panel comics on the official X channel.
