During his visit to the U.S., Prime Minister Kim Min-seok met with U.S. Vice President JD Vance on Thursday to exchange views on the overall state of U.S.-South Korea relations.

The South Korean Embassy in Washington, D.C. informed correspondents from Korean media outlets that Prime Minister Kim had a follow-up meeting with Vice President Vance to discuss bilateral relations.

While the specifics of the talks remain undisclosed, analysts believe both sides addressed key issues such as economic cooperation and security matters. They likely discussed investment plans related to the special investment law for the U.S. that passed in the National Assembly the previous day.

Previously, during his visit to Washington in January, Prime Minister Kim also met with Vice President Vance for about 50 minutes to explore ways to strengthen U.S.-South Korea relations.

That meeting covered misunderstandings between the two countries regarding the investigation into the Coupang data breach, as well as follow-up actions on tariff negotiations and cooperation in shipbuilding and nuclear submarine development.

During that session, Prime Minister Kim suggested that sending a special envoy to North Korea could be a potential approach to resuming dialogue with Pyongyang.

In related news, Prime Minister Kim recently announced plans to visit the United States and Switzerland to discuss cooperation with leaders of international organizations regarding the establishment of a United Nations (UN) Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub. His current U.S. visit may also include talks on related cooperation with senior U.S. government officials.
