Trump’s Security Plans for 2026 World Cup: What to Expect in LA?

PoliticsTrump's Security Plans for 2026 World Cup: What to Expect in LA?

Donald Trump, the President of the U.S., suggested on Tuesday that he may deploy federal forces to Los Angeles (LA) to enhance security during the 2026 North American World Cup. According to Reuters and other sources, President Trump spoke with reporters in the Oval Office, stating that when the World Cup comes, it will have to take certain measures, and it may need to intervene forcibly with them (LA authorities). They have that right and does not want any crime or problems. Last year, after protests against illegal immigration escalated in LA, President Trump deployed the National Guard, and he has since sent the National Guard to Washington D.C., Chicago, and Portland for security purposes. As the U.S. engages in conflict with Iran, concerns about security are rising just two months ahead of the World Cup. Eleven U.S. cities have been selected as host sites for the 2026 North American World Cup, and it is expected that over one million international visitors will attend. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced in January that it would invest 115 million USD in drone technology to bolster World Cup security. Additionally, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provided 250 million USD last December to purchase drone response equipment for the 11 states hosting the World Cup matches.
