Taihan Cable & Solution is intensifying its push into the North American power infrastructure market, leveraging its advanced high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and submarine cable technologies.

The company announced on Wednesday that it showcased strategic products for next-generation power grid construction at the 2026 IEEE PES T&D event in Chicago from May 4 to 7. This exhibition is the largest power industry showcase in the U.S., featuring cutting-edge transmission and distribution technologies.

At the event, Taihan Cable & Solution highlighted its next-generation technologies, including 525kV HVDC underground and submarine cables, as well as the 320kV systems already secured in U.S. contracts. The company’s legacy power grid replacement solution, designed to boost transmission capacity using existing conduits, drew significant attention from local utility officials, particularly given the high proportion of aging power infrastructure in the U.S. market.

The company’s focus on the North American market is driven by the explosive growth in power demand due to the recent expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. Industry experts note that the electricity required for AI servers can be up to several dozen times higher than that of standard servers, making HVDC cables crucial for high-capacity transmission. Forecasts suggest U.S. annual power demand will surge from about 4,100 TWh in 2024 to over 5,000 TWh by 2030.

Taihan Cable & Solution Vice Chairman Song Jong-min engaged directly with key North American utility officials at the exhibition to explore collaboration opportunities. Song emphasized that North America is a growth market where power grid investment and renewable energy expansion are advancing simultaneously. It aims to build on the U.S. track record to expand the presence in core areas such as HVDC and submarine cables.

The company also showcased its comprehensive submarine cable solutions, highlighting the production capacity of its second submarine cable factory in Dangjin, set to open in 2027, and its specialized installation vessel, the Palos. This follows Taihan Cable & Solution’s participation in the ICC North American power grid conference in late April, underscoring its ongoing efforts to strengthen its local network and market position.
