On May 8, the Donald Trump administration released its first batch of declassified government documents concerning unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs).

The Department of Defense (DoD) announced in a statement that it was unveiling these documents as the initial disclosure under the Presidential Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Encounter Reporting System (PURSUE), following a directive from President Trump.

This document release is part of a comprehensive government-wide declassification and disclosure effort. It involves collaboration between the White House, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the Department of Energy, the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and various intelligence agencies.

The DoD clarified that the released documents pertain to unresolved cases where the U.S. government has not reached definitive conclusions about the nature of the observed phenomena. These cases are distinct from resolved cases, which are subject to separate legal reporting requirements, due to insufficient data or other factors preventing clear determinations.

The initial release includes photographs from the Apollo 12 and Apollo 17 lunar missions. One notable image from the 1972 Apollo 17 mission shows three small dots clustered in the sky above the moon’s surface.

The release also features other UAP-related images and videos, including an unidentified object captured by infrared equipment over the western United States last year, a recreation of a 2023 sighting in the southeastern U.S., additional Apollo 17 lunar photos, and footage of a football-shaped object reported near Japan.

However, it’s crucial to note that this release does not confirm the existence of extraterrestrial life or technology. The AARO’s 2024 report explicitly states that there is no verifiable evidence linking UAP sightings to extraterrestrial activity.

President Trump took to Truth Social, stating that in keeping with his promise, the DoD has released the first batch of UFO/UAP files for public review and study. He added that it was his honor to direct the identification and disclosure of government files related to extraterrestrial life, UAPs, and UFOs to ensure complete transparency.

Trump continued that previous administrations were not transparent on this issue, but now, with these new documents and videos, the American people can judge for themselves what is really going on.

This follows Trump’s February announcement on Truth Social, where he pledged to initiate the process of reviewing and disclosing government files related to extraterrestrial life, UAPs, and UFOs.

The DoD emphasized that this undertaking involves reviewing millions of records spanning several decades. They committed to posting additional releases on the UAP disclosure page in the coming weeks, signaling an ongoing commitment to transparency on this intriguing subject.
