Na Hong-jin’s upcoming thriller Hope has unveiled a set of six character posters ahead of its release on July 15.

On Friday, distributor Plus M Entertainment released three behind-the-scenes character posters, uniquely designed with photographs taken by cinematographer Hong Kyung-pyo. These striking images capture the intense focus of Hwang Jung Min as Bum-seok and Jung Ho Yeon as Seong-ae on set, showcasing the actors’ powerful presence as they embody their roles.

Another poster features Jo In Sung as Seong-gi, leaning against a truck surrounded by a group of young men against a lush forest backdrop. This image, with its distinctive aesthetic and color palette, heightens anticipation for the film’s visual style. The behind-the-scenes posters stand out with their bold use of black-and-white photography and innovative, character-specific title designs, demonstrating a fresh and original approach.

The additional three character posters depict crucial moments for the main characters defending Hopohang. They showcase Bum-seok, the local office chief, protecting residents from an ominous threat; Seong-ae, the police officer, aiming her weapon at those who’ve crossed the line; and Seong-gi, a young man pursuing a monster that attacked the village into the mountains.

Hope follows Bum-seok, who runs an outpost in the Demilitarized Zone’s Hopohang area. When local youths report a tiger sighting, the village is thrown into a state of emergency, thrusting Bum-seok into an unbelievable situation. The film recently competed at the prestigious 79th Cannes Film Festival.

Director Na Hong-jin first made waves in the industry with his debut commercial feature The Chaser (2008). He has since garnered international acclaim with his intense thrillers, including The Yellow Sea (2010) and The Wailing (2016). Notably, The Wailing was selected for the non-competitive section at the 69th Cannes Film Festival, further cementing Na’s reputation on the global stage.
