LG CNS has joined a collaborative initiative as a founding member alongside global tech giants like NVIDIA and Meta to develop new materials using artificial intelligence (AI). This partnership aims to integrate AI into material development, potentially slashing innovation timelines for domestic material companies from years to mere months.

On Monday, LG CNS announced its selection as a founding member of the AI Materials Foundry, a global collaboration spearheaded by the British AI startup CuspAI.

The AI Materials Foundry is a global alliance uniting companies and research institutions in AI, chemistry, materials, and computing infrastructure to drive innovation in new material development through AI. The collaboration includes 48 global entities, such as NVIDIA, Meta, and AMD. Industry leaders in new materials, including 3M and Merck, are also actively involved in developing cutting-edge materials.

Through the AI Materials Foundry, CuspAI provides comprehensive infrastructure for the entire lifecycle of industrial new materials, from design and discovery to validation and commercialization. The collaboration aims to significantly reduce costs and development time by integrating high-quality experimental data, research networks, and computing resources from participating companies into CuspAI’s Agentic AI platform.

LG CNS plans to utilize the CuspAI Agentic AI platform to support companies in advanced industries such as semiconductors, chemicals, and energy in their quest for new materials. This initiative will enable domestic manufacturing and materials companies to tap into a global research ecosystem for new material development without the need for substantial investments in expensive research equipment or large-scale AI infrastructure.

Jang Min-yong, head of LG CNS’s Chemical/Battery Division, emphasized that enhancing cost and time efficiency in new material development is crucial for a company’s competitive edge. With AI becoming indispensable, it’s committed to the role as an AI transformation (AX) partner, enabling domestic manufacturing and materials companies to leverage a world-class AI-driven research ecosystem for rapid, tangible business outcomes.
