Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey has dethroned Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, to claim the top spot at the box office.

The Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system reported on Thursday that Odyssey attracted 291,359 viewers on its opening day, August 5, securing the number one position.

This triumph marks Odyssey’s successful conquest of the box office summit, unseating the previously reigning Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The film chronicles the journey of Odysseus (Matt Damon), the hero who led the decade-long Trojan War to victory, as he attempts to return to his waiting wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland분) during the king’s absence. This latest offering from Christopher Nolan, the mastermind behind blockbusters like Interstellar, Dunkirk, Tenet, and Oppenheimer, has already captivated over 36 million viewers in South Korea alone.

In second place, Spider-Man: Brand New Day drew 273,904 viewers on the same day, bringing its total audience to 4,408,155.

Rounding out the top five were Love’s Hachuping: The Legend of the Whale Gem in third place with 73,032 viewers, Hope in fourth with 29,925, and Minions & Monsters in fifth with 5,292. Their respective cumulative audience numbers stand at 100,442, 4,265,623, and 740,023.
