Amorepacific has made a breakthrough in skin improvement and recovery through its innovative hybrid skincare research, combining dermatological treatments with at-home care devices.
The beauty giant announced on Friday that their collaborative study with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) revealed impressive results: using a face-hugging micro light-emitting diode (LED) mask in tandem with skin injection procedures significantly boosts skin enhancement effects.
These groundbreaking findings were featured in the August online edition of Nano Energy, a prestigious international journal focusing on energy and nanomaterials.
The study centered on analyzing post-injection skin recovery and improvement using a mask equipped with cutting-edge facial-conforming surface-emitting micro LED technology. Researchers combined PN injections, a go-to skin booster, with a mask utilizing 630nm red light photobiomodulation tech for maximum impact.
This game-changing mask is engineered to mold perfectly to facial contours, ensuring optimal light delivery. It boasts an impressive 78.1% skin contact area, up from 46.9% in previous models, and narrows the light source-to-skin gap to just 1.8mm from 4.1mm. Even more impressive? It achieves a whopping 93.8% light uniformity across eight facial zones.
In a head-to-head comparison using human skin tissue, the dream team of PN injections plus LED mask outshone both standalone treatments. This power couple significantly dialed down melanin production factors and ramped up collagen production by about 15%, leaving the PN-only group in the dust.
An eight-week clinical trial with 33 participants further cemented these findings. The combo treatment areas showed jaw-dropping improvements across five key brightening indicators, including a reduction in freckles and blemishes, more even skin tone, and decreased skin keratin.
Deep skin elasticity improved by 12.8% after 8 weeks, showing a change more than four times greater than the 3.1% observed in the PN injection-only group. Skin density also improved significantly.
The rate of recovery for skin that had become sensitive after the procedure was also faster in the combined treatment group. Trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL), an indicator of skin barrier recovery, decreased by 20.8% three days after the procedure—a greater improvement than the 12.4% reduction seen in the PN injection-only group—and erythema also decreased.
