Zuckerberg’s Summit with South Korean President on the Horizon

EtcZuckerberg's Summit with South Korean President on the Horizon

A potential meeting between South Korea’s President Yoon Suk Yeol and Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg is on the horizon during Zuckerberg’s upcoming trip to Korea later this month.

An official from the presidential office revealed to News1 on the 21st that Meta has proposed a meeting, which is currently under positive consideration. However, a final decision has yet to be made.

Suppose a meeting between President Yoon and Zuckerberg takes place. In that case, it’s anticipated that artificial intelligence (AI) will be a key topic on their agenda.

The global competition surrounding generative AI began in earnest with the launch of ChatGPT at the end of 2022, and Meta is also heating up its related technology development.

President Yoon also focuses on AI policy, placing an AI digital secretary under the newly built Office of the Science and Technology Advisor.

The industry also speculates that Zuckerberg’s visit will include a meeting with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae Yong.

Following his recent announcement about developing general artificial intelligence (AGI), Zuckerberg is reportedly aiming to secure many high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs) to enhance the capabilities of the generative AI system Lama 3.

The visit might see Zuckerberg seeking further collaboration with Samsung Electronics, which is known for producing AI semiconductors, including high-bandwidth memory (HBM).

If Zuckerberg visits Korea, it will be about 10 years since his last visit in June 2013.

At that time, Zuckerberg met with former President Park Geun Hye at the Blue House and discussed ways to activate ventures and start-ups. He also met with Lee Jae Yong, executive chairman of Samsung Electronics (then vice chairman).
