Every year on November 19, Brazil commemorates its soccer emperor by celebrating Pelé Day.

On the 3rd (Korean time), the Brazilian government announced, “President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has approved a new bill praising Pelé,” adding, “Now, November 19 is proclaimed as King Pelé Day for the Brazilian people.”

On November 19, Pelé scored his 1000th career goal, playing for Santos against Vasco da Gama at the Maracanã Stadium in 1969.

Pelé, a Brazilian soccer hero, secured trophies for Brazil in the 1958, 1962, and 1970 World Cups.

Pelé passed away at 82 on December 29, 2022, but Brazilians still remember him as the greatest soccer player in Brazilian history.

Jorge Kajuru, a Brazilian senator, explained, “Designating Pelé Day is a tribute that should rightfully be paid not only in Brazilian soccer but also to one of the most important and influential figures in world sports.”
