EtcKim Jong Un Celebrates Korean War Veterans with Mysterious Gifts

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is raising the celebratory atmosphere ahead of the 71st anniversary of The Day of Victory in the Great Fatherland Liberation War (Victory Day) by sending gifts to war veterans.

The Workers’ Party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on July 26 that Kim Jong Un’s benevolent gifts had been respectfully delivered to war veterans nationwide. However, the contents of the gifts were not disclosed.

The newspaper conveyed that the veterans expressed their gratitude to Kim, saying, “He has recognized us as precious teachers who created a great history and as models that future generations should always follow, bestowing upon us all the glory and happiness in the world.”

The report continued, explaining that the war veterans have committed to appreciating the profound kindness of their beloved leader, which deepens over time. They aim to embody the spirit and determination of the 1950s that marked a new chapter in the Korean revolution. This commitment is expected to boost their zeal as educators in the fields of loyalty and patriotism, leading the nation toward a century of victory.

The newspaper also noted that war veterans, individuals recognized for wartime merits, workers from the munitions industry, and labor innovators across the country had arrived in Pyongyang on the 25th. They gathered to participate in the celebration of the 71st anniversary of the victory in the Fatherland Liberation War, commonly known as the Korean War, with a celebratory event planned in Pyongyang on the anniversary day.

North Korea is creating a festive atmosphere by caring for veterans ahead of Victory Day. The previous day, high-ranking officials visited the homes of war veterans, delivering bouquets and gifts while sharing meals, according to the newspaper.

Since taking power, Kim Jong Un has made significant efforts to honor veterans. Seven of the eight veteran gatherings held in North Korea since its inception occurred during his leadership. However, as this year is not a milestone anniversary (those ending in 5 or 10), an event of an average scale is expected.

North Korea celebrates the signing of the Korean War Armistice Agreement as Victory Day, interpreting it as a triumph over the United States. Each year, this observance underscores the patriotism of war veterans and aims to foster a sense of patriotism and loyalty among the younger generation.
