EtcPresident Yoon Plans Major Public Briefing on Key Reforms

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol is considering directly explaining his plans on key national agendas, including the pension reform, before the regular National Assembly session in September.

In a phone interview with News1, a senior official from the presidential office stated, “We are reviewing the possibility of holding a public briefing on national tasks for the citizens before the regular National Assembly session.”

While the specifics regarding the topics, timing, and format are still being finalized, reports suggest that the plan addresses five key issues with the public: education, labor, pensions, healthcare reform, and the low birth rate crisis. This engagement might occur either at the end of this month or the beginning of next month.

The briefing is expected to center on pension reform. Discussions on this topic have been ongoing for over a year but remain unresolved and have been deferred to the 22nd National Assembly. Yoon is known to be firmly committed to finalizing pension reform by the end of the year.

Possible formats for this engagement include a national briefing, a press conference, or a public address.

Yoon is expected to finalize his briefing plans during the summer vacation starting today.

While on vacation, Yoon is anticipated to visit military facilities to encourage soldiers, tour traditional markets, and focus on his plans for national governance in the second half of the year.
