Jeodo Island, which hosts the presidential retreat in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, will reopen to the public on the 16th. The Geoje City government announced today that it had completed the island’s annual maintenance, which took place in July.
Once restricted to the public for many years, Jeodo Island has been open to visitors since 2019.
Known for its well-preserved natural beauty, stunning coastal views-including those of the Busan-Geoje Bridge-and its status as a retreat for the sitting president, Jeodo has become a top tourist destination. Over the past five years, it has attracted 300,000 visitors.
Upon arriving at Jeodo, visitors are immediately drawn to the impressive Yeonriji Garden at the pier.
In spring, the garden comes alive with blooming cherry blossoms; summer fills it with lush greenery; and autumn showcases the vibrant red flowers of the Lagerstroemia indica.
As visitors stroll along the trails surrounding the presidential retreat, they can admire sculptures shaped like folding screens that depict past presidents. These sculptures have received positive reviews from tourists.
Hiking up the hill on Jeodo leads visitors to the Second Observation Deck. This vantage point, comprised of three circular platforms stacked in tiers, offers a sweeping view of the Busan-Geoje Bridge and the deep blue sea.
Further along the cursed stone path, the newly renovated Third Observatory offers an ideal spot for photographing the Busan-Geoje Bridge against the sea backdrop.
In addition, walking the mountain paths of Jeodo reveals a variety of plant life, including beautifully developed roots of the Aphananthe aspera.
A standout attraction is a massive Pinus thunbergii, estimated to be 400 years old and 98 feet tall, which has become a must-see for visitors.
Jeodo Island is open year-round, except for maintenance periods in January and July. Visitors can apply for entry through the Geoje Jeodo ferry website or by phone reservation.
