EtcSouth Korean President to Meet New Zealand Prime Minister: Key Talks on Bilateral Cooperation Set for September

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol will meet with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, who will visit South Korea from September 4 to 6. The discussions will focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation and addressing regional and international issues.

South Korea’s presidential office announced on August 26 that Yoon and Luxon will explore ways to strengthen practical ties between their countries and collaborate on regional and global platforms.

Previously, on July 11, Yoon met with leaders from the Indo-Pacific Four (IP4), including New Zealand, during the NATO summit in Washington, D.C. At that summit, the leaders issued a joint statement condemning illegal military cooperation between North Korea and Russia, which threatens peace and stability in both the Indo-Pacific and European regions. They expressed concerns about the increasing military and economic ties between North Korea and Russia and called for adherence to United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions regarding North Korea.

On July 15, Winston Peters, New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited South Korea and met with former National Security Advisor Jang Ho Jin. During their meeting, they emphasized the need for a unified international response.
