K-pop girl group Weeekly is taking on a new role as they step up to support South Korea’s youth. On Monday, the incorporated association Youth & Future officially announced Weeekly as the 8th Annual Youth Day ambassador in South Korea. The announcement was made through a video titled “Weeekly: Ambassadors for the 8th Annual Youth Day in South Korea,” posted on their official YouTube and social media channels.

The National Youth Day is celebrated every year on the third Saturday of September in South Korea. This festival, the only youth-led comprehensive event in the country, marks the official designation of Youth Day as a legal commemorative day and aims to support young people. The Youth & Future originally proposed the legal designation of Youth Day, and the festival has been held annually ever since. This year’s event will take place on the 21st and 22nd. Previous ambassadors have included actress Jeon Do Yeon, singer Hyomin, film director Kang Yoon Seong, and actress Kim Bo Ra. Starting this year, the Korea Youth Day K-pop concert has been rebranded as the Me+Youth Festival.

As official ambassadors, Weeekly will actively participate in promotional activities to support this important day, uphold youth rights, and raise awareness about youth issues.

Weeekly shared their excitement, saying, “We are thrilled and honored to be part of the promotion for Korea Youth Day. As a group of young people, we are committed to supporting and cheering for everyone’s bright future.”

In July, Weeekly returned with its mini-album Bliss, featuring the title track “LIGHTS ON.” The song, which embodies the vibrant energy of summer, achieved top 10 rankings on the iTunes Album charts in five countries, showcasing their growing global influence. This September, they will launch their first North American tour, the 2024 Weeekly Grand America Tour, covering nine cities and further boosting their international presence.
