South Korean police have dropped the drug use allegations against the son of Tae Yong Ho, Secretary General of the National Unification Advisory Council and former People Power Party lawmaker.

On Thursday, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced that they had decided not to press charges against 32-year-old Tae, concluding their investigation after they found no grounds to support the allegations of marijuana use.

The police initiated the investigation last November after receiving a report from the Jeju Police Agency regarding Tae’s suspected violation of the Narcotics Control Act. The complainant, who had traveled to Thailand with Tae in September of the same year, reportedly submitted a formal accusation, claiming to have witnessed him smoking marijuana during their trip.

In a separate case, Tae is under police investigation for alleged fraud amounting to approximately 1 billion KRW (roughly $750,000). According to the filed complaint, Tae is accused of approaching victims with promises of high returns through cryptocurrency investments but failing to repay substantial sums.
