The Trump administration appointed Allison Hooker, former Senior Director for Asia at the National Security Council (NSC), as undersecretary of state, the third-highest official in the U.S. State Department.

According to the official announcement released by the U.S. Congress’s official website and Semafor, a nomination notice dated Tuesday stated that Hooker, who is from Georgia, has been nominated for the position of undersecretary of state.

Hooker is an expert in Indo-Pacific security who served as the Korea expert on the National Security Council during the first Trump administration and played a role in the U.S.-North Korea summit.
