Samsung Heavy Industries Integrates SAVER Wind(C) to Revolutionize Container Ship Efficiency

EconomySamsung Heavy Industries Integrates SAVER Wind(C) to Revolutionize Container Ship Efficiency

Samsung Heavy Industries announced on Tuesday that it had delivered a 15,000 TEU (1 TEU equals a 40-foot standard container) large container ship equipped with its self-developed air resistance reduction device, “SAVER Wind(C).”

While the SAVER Wind(C) has been installed on existing container ships before, this is the first time it has been applied to a newly built vessel.

Typically, 80% of the air resistance received by container ships is caused by the boxes themselves. The SAVER Wind(c) mounted on the ship’s bow reduces this resistance and protects cargo from high waves.

The SAVER Wind(c) uses a unique arch-shaped design developed after analyzing various cargo loading and operating conditions. This innovative feature effectively disperses airflow around the ship’s front and sides, boosting fuel efficiency by up to 6%.

It also has the advantage of not requiring a pillar to support the structure, eliminating potential interference with other ship equipment during installation, and being lighter than other products. Samsung Heavy Industries has signed contracts to install the SAVER Wind(c) on 41 container ships.
