Apple CEO Tim Cook is reportedly feeling deeply uneasy amid ongoing supply chain issues affecting the next-generation iPhone 17.
According to mobile tech outlet PhoneArena on Monday, Apple is facing difficulties due to a shortage of low-CTE (coefficient of thermal expansion) glass fiber fabric, a key material essential for the upcoming iPhone 17 series. As a result, production of Apple’s next flagship smartphone is experiencing disruptions.
Low-CTE glass fiber is used in smartphones to help mitigate stress on internal components caused by heat dissipation and temperature fluctuations. It is considered a critical structural component, and the iPhone 17 series cannot be manufactured without it. Industry insiders report that other stakeholders are also working on contingency plans to address the ongoing shortage. Apple is said to be placing daily pressure on suppliers to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 is expected to be Apple’s next flagship model and is rumored to feature a redesigned exterior. The Pro models will reportedly adopt a large camera island similar to that of Google’s Pixel 9. Additionally, the iPhone Plus model is expected to be discontinued and replaced with a thinner model called the iPhone 17 Air.
