According to TechRadar on Monday, Nvidia is gearing up to launch its cutting-edge RTX 5080 and 5070 Super GPUs, boasting an impressive 24GB and 18GB of VRAM, respectively. These new models are set to deliver a significant performance boost.

Industry insiders anticipate a 7-15% performance improvement over the current 5080 and 5070 models. There’s also speculation about potential price freezes, a move that could be seen as Nvidia’s response to increasing market pressure from AMD’s expanding its market share with the RX 9000 series.

While prices for the new GPUs are likely to be the same as or slightly higher than the RTX 5080 and 5070, the RTX 5080 Super could potentially see a more substantial increase of 10-20%. If the enhanced VRAM and improved clock speeds can indeed deliver a 15% performance boost, it could give Nvidia a significant edge in its rivalry with AMD. In games that heavily rely on VRAM, the RTX 5080 Super might even rival the performance of the RTX 4090.

Nvidia’s decision to release the Super model appears to be a strategic counter to AMD’s RX 9000 series. The unexpectedly robust performance of AMD’s latest offerings has been rapidly eating into market share, prompting Nvidia to respond swiftly and decisively.

The RTX 5070 Super is poised to become Nvidia’s key player that strengthens competition with AMD, especially in the mid-range market. With an expected launch in 2025, all eyes will be on how the market react to this new offering, especially considering its combination of price and performance. The extent to which the expanded VRAM contributes to real-world performance improvements could be a deciding factor for many gamers looking to upgrade their systems.
