Apple’s iPhone home screen is set for a major overhaul with iOS 26. The tech giant has completely redesigned app icons, incorporating glass and reflection effects, while significantly expanding user customization options.

9to5Mac reported that iOS 26 will feature significantly enhanced icon customization capabilities. Previous iOS versions offered Basic, Dark, Auto, and Tinted icon styles, with the Tinted mode applying highlight colors to dark backgrounds.

iOS 26 introduces a new light Tinted style, enabling bright and transparent icon effects. Users can access these options by long-pressing the home screen to open the edit menu and selecting Tinted mode. From there, they can choose Light, Dark, or Auto options. The Dark and Auto modes enable icon styles to adjust automatically according to the system theme.

Additionally, Apple has unveiled a new Clear Mode. This feature utilizes Apple’s Liquid Retina Display to create semi-transparent icons that seamlessly blend with the wallpaper. Clear Mode also offers Light, Dark, and Auto options, allowing users to choose their preferred aesthetic.

The update also brings improvements to Dark mode icons. The previous Auto mode has been replaced with a new Auto option, which dynamically adjusts icons to match the Dark mode setting. This change enhances user experience by providing more responsive icon appearances that adapt to the system theme.

These icon tinting features will also be available on macOS. This unified approach enables users to maintain consistent icon styles across iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices, providing a more cohesive user experience throughout Apple’s ecosystem.
