Reddit is exploring the integration of iris scanning technology from Worldcoin, co-founded by OpenAI’s Sam Altman, into its user authentication system, according to Semafor.

The report suggests that Reddit is considering using the World ID system to verify users as real individuals. However, Semafor indicates that user anonymity is likely to be preserved.

This potential move has sparked strong opposition among Reddit users, with many threatening to delete their accounts or switch to alternative platforms.

Worldcoin’s collection of biometric data has already faced resistance in several countries, with some nations outright banning the company from gathering citizens’ data. So far, over 12 million people have reportedly had their irises scanned using Worldcoin’s Orb device.
