North Korea held an opening ceremony for the Wonsan-Kalma Coastal Tourist Zone on Tuesday, with General Secretary Kim Jong Un in attendance. The event drew particular attention as Ri Sol Ju, Kim’s wife, made her first public appearance in 18 months, accompanied by their daughter, Kim Ju Ae.

According to the Rodong Sinmun coverage, the state-run newspaper devoted its first four pages to the ceremony. The front page described the resort, completed on the scenic Kalma Peninsula known for its coastal charm, as a major milestone, presenting it as the start of a new chapter in North Korea’s tourism sector.

The newspaper reported that the zone includes accommodations for approximately 20,000 guests, with facilities such as hotels, inns, beaches, sports and entertainment venues, and commercial establishments.

Page three covered Kim Jong Un’s tour of the site following the ribbon-cutting ceremony. He visited the Myongsasipri Outdoor Water Park, Kalma Moranbong Inn, and the Myongsasipri Hotel, among other facilities. The report conveyed that Kim expressed deep satisfaction, viewing the completion as the realization of a long-standing initiative that the Workers’ Party had pursued for years to benefit the people.

Page four indicated that the resort is scheduled to open for domestic visitors starting Monday, July 1.

Meanwhile, on page five, the Rodong Sinmun reported on a mass rally held near the Sinchon Class Education Hall to mark the Day of Anti-U.S. Armed Resistance. The paper emphasized the participation of party and government officials, labor groups, and youth organizations. It stated that the rally served to intensify public hostility toward the United States and South Korea, calling for strengthened resolve and national power in pursuit of victory in the ongoing anti-imperialist struggle.

Page six focused on Russia’s military activity, stating that Moscow continues to enhance its defense capabilities as it carries out its special military operation in Ukraine.
