Kim Jong Un, the General Secretary of North Korea’s Workers’ Party, attended the celebration of the party’s 80th anniversary on Thursday. He promoted the superiority of the socialist system and rallied support for the party
The Workers’ Party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on Friday that the grand celebration took place the previous day at the May Day Stadium with Kim in attendance. The event included a ceremony to raise the national and party flags.
In his speech, Kim stated that as it commemorates the 80th anniversary of the party’s founding today with this grand celebration, it reflects on the sacred eight decades dedicated to the great founding generation that brought a revolutionary transformation to the nation and people’s destiny.
He extended heartfelt congratulations and encouragement to the event representatives, party members, citizens, and military personnel. The newspaper reported that children presented bouquets to leaders of various countries, government officials, delegations, and overseas Korean congratulatory groups.
Photos showed that Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Russia’s Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev (a close ally of President Vladimir Putin), and Vietnam’s Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong were among the attendees.
Kim remarked that since the democratic founding period, which marked the beginning of the party’s establishment and its leadership over national affairs, the Workers’ Party has diligently fulfilled its role as the driving force of the revolution and the guiding light of state governance, achieving remarkable historical milestones.
He further emphasized that it has created a true people’s nation with absolute dignity and national power, a strong country where socialist ideology is fully realized, contributing significantly to the global pursuit of independence and justice.
Reflecting on the party’s 80-year history, he stated that the party willingly shouldered all historical challenges, blazing trails never before traveled, and inscribing a history of monumental transformation. This clearly demonstrates how they’ve achieved vast and radical developments in politics, military, economy, culture, and foreign relations.
He also highlighted that the party and government’s unwavering principles and bold actions have strongly promoted the growth of the progressive camp opposing war and hegemony. As a loyal member of socialist forces and a bastion of independence and justice, the republic’s international standing continues to strengthen.
Kim affirmed that he will always cherish a deep love for the people and never forget my duty to them. He pledges to work even harder to honor the people’s trust and believing in those who support the party, and always standing united with them, it will make our country more prosperous and beautiful, establishing it as the world’s finest socialist paradise.
North Korea was expected to hold a military parade in Kim Il Sung Square to mark the party’s 80th anniversary this year, but no related news has been reported yet.
