A man in his 50s was apprehended by law enforcement after causing a disturbance at the Unification Bridge in Paju City, Gyeonggi Province, expressing his desire to visit North Korea.

The Paju Police Department said on Wednesday that the man, identified only as Mr. A, was arrested on charges of violating the Military Facilities Protection Act.

According to authorities, Mr. A allegedly caused a scene at the southern entrance of the Unification Bridge in Munsan-eup, Paju City, at approximately 9:47 AM on Tuesday, declaring his intention to enter North Korea.

Witnesses reported that the suspect kicked a sign reading ‘No Entry – Military Controlled Area’ and damaged a security barricade during the incident.

Officials confirmed that Mr. A arrived at the scene in his personal vehicle and is not believed to be a North Korean defector.

Law enforcement has formally charged Mr. A and is currently conducting a thorough investigation into his motives and background.
