The Ministry of Unification announced on Tuesday that it plans to maintain consistent efforts to reduce tensions and build trust between the two Koreas while monitoring the results of investigations by relevant agencies regarding North Korea’s claim of a South Korean drone intrusion into its airspace.

During a regular press briefing at the Government Complex in Seoul on Monday, Ministry of Unification spokesperson Yoon Min-ho addressed the government’s approach to the drone incident. He stated that as the government has confirmed it has no intentions of provocation towards the North and has initiated a joint military-police investigation, it’s crucial to swiftly uncover the facts to ease inter-Korean tensions and foster trust.

This statement clearly indicates that even as North Korea ramps up pressure through statements from its General Staff and Kim Yo-jong, the deputy director of the Workers’ Party Central Committee, the South Korean government is prioritizing situation stabilization through investigation, explanation, and management rather than military confrontation or tit-for-tat responses.

The Ministry of Unification also disclosed that it continues to attempt contact with North Korea through the Panmunjom liaison channel. Spokesperson Yoon reported that they are making daily attempts to communicate via the Panmunjom channel, but have yet to receive any response from the North.
