POSCO’s Pohang Steelworks has unveiled a groundbreaking Smart Safety Operation Logic system, developed in partnership with POSCO DX. This innovative technology, launched on Tuesday, enables real-time tracking and analysis of product location and shape.

The Pohang Steelworks reports that this cutting-edge system empowers cranes to autonomously recognize product configurations and execute precise movements without human intervention.

Kim Byeong-guk, the lead engineer behind the Smart Safety Operation Logic at Pohang Steelworks, elaborated on the system’s capabilities. He highlighted how the integration of physical artificial intelligence (AI) and vision AI technologies effectively eliminates the minor errors typically associated with manual operations, while also fundamentally preventing potential collisions between equipment.

During the loading process, which demands extreme precision, the newly developed logic allows cranes to independently identify optimal loading points. This not only enhances operational efficiency but also significantly elevates on-site safety standards, according to company officials.

A spokesperson for Pohang Steelworks emphasized their commitment to fostering field-centric technological innovation, with the ultimate goal of establishing a world-class, safe, and smart steelworks facility.
