Kangbuk Samsung Hospital announced on Wednesday that it has secured two consecutive contracts for the Non-communicable Disease Management Project Formation in Sri Lanka and Mongolia, commissioned by the Korea International Health Care Foundation (KOFIH), expanding its involvement in digital healthcare-based international development cooperation (ODA) projects.
This survey aims to lay the groundwork for a long-term project to establish digital chronic disease management systems in Sri Lanka and Mongolia. Specifically, it focuses on designing a 6 to 7-year roadmap that includes enhancing chronic disease management capabilities and training healthcare professionals.
Drawing on its decade-long experience in mobile healthcare services and digital healthcare research and development (R&D), the hospital plans to identify suitable elements for healthcare environments in developing countries. It will also assess the feasibility of implementing local digital healthcare solutions, including mobile health management, data-driven monitoring, and telemedicine.
Furthermore, the hospital aims to support developing countries in building their own chronic disease management capabilities. This will be achieved by presenting a practical integrated business model through healthcare system analysis, baseline surveys, and the establishment of performance and risk management systems.
Hospital Director Shin Hyun-cheol commented that this project is significant as it not only fulfills the hospital’s social responsibility but also expands the digital healthcare capabilities globally. It aims to contribute to addressing global healthcare challenges using a model proven effective in Korea, while also creating growth opportunities in the digital healthcare sector.
It’s worth noting that both Sri Lanka and Mongolia face similar challenges, including a shortage of specialized medical staff, inadequate infrastructure, and high reliance on imported medical devices and pharmaceuticals. These factors have led to a significant dependence on overseas medical tourism for treating severe illnesses.
