Hallym University Kangnam Sacred Heart Hospital recently held an International Symposium on Robotics and Advanced Surgery in Changchun, Jilin Province, China, in collaboration with the Second Hospital of Jilin University, the institution announced on Thursday.

The symposium, part of the Second Hospital of Jilin University’s international exchange program, brought together medical experts from both institutions to share cutting-edge surgical techniques, treatment experiences, and research findings in obstetrics, gynecology, and orthopedics.

The event drew a delegation of 11 representatives from Hallym University Kangnam Sacred Heart Hospital, including Hospital Director Lee Dong-jin, Medical Affairs Director Park Sung-taek, International Academic Committee Chair Kim Hyung-nyeon, and International Medical Committee Chair Jo Jeong-rae. They were joined by 12 faculty members from the Second Hospital of Jilin University, led by Hospital Director Wang Haifeng.

Wang Haifeng presided over the symposium. The obstetrics and gynecology session featured presentations on cervical cerclage for preterm birth prevention, robotic surgery for large uterine fibroids, and immuno-oncology cell therapy. Researchers also shared advancements in regenerative medicine.

During the orthopedics session, experts showcased state-of-the-art robotic surgical techniques, including hip joint procedures using robotic systems, robot-assisted bilateral endoscopic spinal fusion, and customized surgical instruments with navigation for joint replacement. The session also highlighted clinical experiences and research breakthroughs from both countries in treating degenerative lumbar disease with osteoporotic fractures in elderly patients, sports medicine, digital and intelligent orthopedics, and innovative spinal surgery technologies.

Hallym University and Jilin University have maintained a partnership since signing an exchange agreement in 2007. Hallym University Kangnam Sacred Heart Hospital and the Second Hospital of Jilin University have further strengthened ties through a separate agreement in 2014, facilitating ongoing medical staff training, joint research, and academic exchanges.

The Second Hospital of Jilin University, founded in 1936, is a comprehensive medical center affiliated with Jilin University. With approximately 4,000 beds and over 4,400 staff members, it stands as a leading healthcare institution in Northeast China, boasting advanced clinical and research capabilities across various specialties, including obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, and cardiology.

Established in 1936, the Second Hospital of Jilin University is a comprehensive medical facility affiliated with Jilin University and a cornerstone of healthcare in Northeast China. The hospital features about 4,000 beds, employs over 4,400 staff members, and excels in clinical practice and research across multiple disciplines, including obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, and cardiology.

Hospital Director Lee Dong-jin expressed his vision for the future, stating that this symposium serves as a stepping stone to enhance the collaboration in research, education, and clinical practice. It aims to develop a model of international cooperation that will drive healthcare advancement across Asia.

Hallym University Kangnam Sacred Heart Hospital continues to expand its robotic surgery program, with procedures being performed across various departments, including obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, urology, and general surgery. The hospital’s Robotic Surgery Center serves as the hub for these cutting-edge operations. Additionally, the institution is actively strengthening its global healthcare network by expanding joint research initiatives and academic exchanges with international medical centers.
