Naver Webtoon unveiled its latest app, Cuts Make, on Wednesday. This innovative platform empowers users to craft short-form animations using webtoon intellectual property (IP), with the blessing of original creators.

The company’s vision is to foster a thriving ecosystem where fan-created content flourishes within approved boundaries, ultimately driving more engagement with original works.

Cuts Make is a creative companion app that integrates seamlessly with Naver Webtoon’s short-form animation service, Cuts. Launched officially last September, Cuts allows users to produce and share bite-sized animations inspired by webtoons.

With Cuts Make, fans can now effortlessly bring their favorite webtoon scenes and characters to life through video creation.

Every piece of IP available in Cuts Make comes with the original creator’s stamp of approval. This setup allows fans to unleash their creativity without copyright concerns, while creators benefit from strengthened fan engagement and increased exposure for their original works.

The app boasts two primary features: Character Memes and Webtoon Music Videos (MVs).

Character Memes lets users select beloved webtoon characters and templates to craft animations in a trendy, short-form challenge style. The Webtoon MV feature transforms cherished webtoon panels into video format, enabling users to produce content akin to music videos or animated openings with simple editing tools.

To mark the app’s debut, nine popular webtoons with robust fan bases have signed on, including Garbage Time, Addicted to Dating Apps, The Greatest Estate Developer, Love Revolution, Job Change Log, Jangdu, Operation: True Love, Omniscient Reader, and #First Love.

While Cuts Make offers its core features free of charge, premium options such as advanced templates, enhanced cut editing, and rapid generation are available for a fee. Users can seamlessly upload their creations to Naver Webtoon’s short animation service, Cuts, and have the option to export and download their videos.

As of now, Cuts Make is ready for download on the Google Play Store. The app is slated to hit the Apple App Store next week, pending approval.

Kim Hyo-jung, who heads Naver Webtoon’s Cuts Business division, expressed the company’s goal: It’s aiming to create a virtuous cycle where webtoon enthusiasts discover new creative joys through Cuts Make, which in turn reinforces the original fandoms.
