On Thursday, the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Embassy in Korea. This collaboration aims to support the year-long “Freedom 250” campaign, commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Throughout the year, both organizations will host various commemorative events and roundtable discussions with key figures, centered around the Freedom 250 theme. Their objective is to reinforce shared values of liberal democracy and highlight the achievements and significance of the U.S.-Korea alliance. This will be accomplished through diverse programs showcasing American innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.

As the official Korean partner for Freedom 250, AMCHAM will support programs that reflect the business community’s perspectives and insights. They will also integrate the Freedom 250 brand into several of their major events to amplify the campaign’s message.

AMCHAM noted that the U.S.-Korea alliance has evolved from its initial focus on security cooperation to now encompass trade, investment, cutting-edge technology, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. They emphasized that this agreement reaffirms the alliance’s comprehensive nature and provides a platform for exploring future collaborative efforts.

James Kim, chairman and CEO of AMCHAM, said that through various programs, the group will highlight how shared values of freedom and innovation have strengthened one of the world’s most important alliances, the U.S.-Korea partnership. He added that the goal is to turn that trust into tangible cooperation throughout 2026.

James Jim Heller, deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Korea, said Freedom 250 is more than a retrospective event, describing it as a launching point for the next 250 years. He added that the embassy is optimistic that the collaboration will help take the partnership between the two countries to new heights.
