Ildong Pharmaceutical explored opportunities to expand its pharmaceutical exports and contract manufacturing business at a global pharmaceutical exhibition in Milan, Italy. The company sought to broaden its horizons beyond supplying existing raw materials and finished pharmaceuticals, looking into overseas commercialization of healthcare products and new drug candidates.
Ildong Pharmaceutical announced on Monday that it participated in CPHI Worldwide 2026 held in Milan from October 6 to 8. During the event, the company engaged in discussions for business development and partnerships with global pharmaceutical companies and related firms.
CPhI Worldwide is an international pharmaceutical exhibition that brings together companies involved in active pharmaceutical ingredients, finished pharmaceuticals, and the pharmaceutical manufacturing supply chain. Ildong Pharmaceutical set up a promotional booth in the Korean pavilion, showcasing its pharmaceuticals, manufacturing facilities, and overseas business capabilities.
The company highlighted key products, including combination drugs for cardiovascular diseases, anticancer agents, antibiotics, and wound care dressings, which are gaining traction in Southeast Asia. Ildong also proposed collaborations in contract manufacturing using its dedicated facilities for anticancer and antibiotic production, as well as the supply of high-quality active pharmaceutical ingredients.
According to the company, there was significant interest from overseas businesses in their healthcare product line, including probiotic raw materials, finished products, and functional cosmetics.
Discussions also centered on the potential for overseas commercialization of new drug candidates. Of particular interest was ID120040002 (padoprazan), a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) candidate for treating gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Building on the business connections established at this exhibition, Ildong Pharmaceutical plans to expand its global business model. This expansion will go beyond exporting raw and finished pharmaceuticals to include contract manufacturing, original equipment manufacturing (OEM), and original design manufacturing (ODM).
An Ildong Pharmaceutical spokesperson stated that they’re aiming to broaden the international footprint beyond the traditional offerings of finished and raw pharmaceuticals. The strategy involves diversifying into the healthcare and beauty sectors, leveraging contract manufacturing, OEM, and ODM approaches to strengthen the global presence.
Meanwhile, Ildong Pharmaceutical is undertaking a group-wide reorganization of its research and development (R&D) system and strategy. This initiative aims to bolster the company’s capabilities in new drug research and development and enhance its business momentum. Looking ahead, the company plans to foster a more integrated collaboration system among its various organizational units.
