Key government officials in charge of artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives met with Lisa Su, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AMD, to explore avenues for AI collaboration during her visit to South Korea.

On Thursday, Lim Moon-young, Vice Chair of the National AI Strategy Committee, and Ha Jung-woo, Senior Secretary for AI and Future Planning at the Blue House, held discussions with Su in Seoul’s Gwanghwamun district.

During the meeting, they outlined South Korea’s ambitious strategy to become one of the world’s top three AI powerhouses through the development of an advanced AI infrastructure. They also received updates on the outcomes of Su’s visit.

As part of her trip, Su engaged with several prominent companies, including tech giants Samsung Electronics and Naver, as well as the AI startup Upstage.

Sources indicate that Su expressed satisfaction with the strengthened partnerships forged with South Korean AI firms during her visit.

Both parties committed to expanding public-private collaborations, aiming to enable more South Korean companies to leverage AMD’s open AI ecosystem for synergistic growth.

The discussions also focused on strategies to bolster South Korea’s global AI competitiveness and facilitate AI adoption across regional industries. They emphasized the importance of regional AI transformation (AX) for balanced development, including the establishment of data centers. The talks explored multifaceted cooperation, such as cultivating AI software talent in conjunction with the K-Moonshot project – an initiative aimed at addressing national challenges through AI – and pursuing joint development and research endeavors.

Looking ahead, South Korea and AMD have pledged to strengthen their collaborative efforts in building a global, open AI ecosystem.
