Onconic Therapeutics has revealed that its gastroesophageal reflux disease treatment, JAQBO orally disintegrating tablets, meets bioequivalence standards when taken with or without water, matching the existing standard tablets.

The findings were published in the international journal Pharmacology Research & Perspectives (PR&P).

JAQBO, a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB), was introduced in October 2024. The orally disintegrating formulation, designed for easy consumption without water, received approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in 2025 and hit the market in January 2026.

The study involved 54 healthy adults in a randomized, open-label, single-dose, crossover design. Researchers compared the pharmacokinetics and safety of 20 mg JAQBO orally disintegrating tablets, taken with and without water, to the standard tablets.

Results showed bioequivalence under both conditions. Drug absorption rates and time to peak blood concentration were similar, with no additional early systemic exposure observed for the orally disintegrating tablets.

Safety assessments revealed no serious adverse events or clinically significant concerns.

This study is significant as it validates the pharmacokinetics and safety of the approved JAQBO orally disintegrating tablets, demonstrating bioequivalence even without water.

Onconic Therapeutics expects these findings to guide healthcare providers in selecting appropriate formulations based on patient needs and circumstances. This could particularly benefit those who struggle with swallowing pills or have limited access to water.

The research team stated that they’ve confirmed bioequivalence to standard tablets under both conditions and presented their findings in an international journal.

Meanwhile, Onconic Therapeutics is developing an anti-cancer drug candidate, Nasuparib. This dual inhibitor targets both PARP and tankyrase, involved in cancer cell DNA repair, and is being developed for various cancer types.
