Go Woo-suk’s Controversial Suspension: Insights on His Return to the Mound

LifestyleGo Woo-suk's Controversial Suspension: Insights on His Return to the Mound

Go Woo-suk (28, Minnesota Twins), who was disciplined after a foreign object was found in his glove during a Minor League Baseball game, has had his suspension reduced.

Brandon Warne, the beat reporter for the Minnesota Twins, reported on his social media on Monday that Go’s suspension has been cut from 10 games to 8. Warne added that today marks the final day of Go’s suspension, allowing him to suit up for the St. Paul Saints, the Twins’ Triple-A affiliate, starting August 4.

The incident occurred on July 25 during a minor league game against the Columbus Clippers, the Cleveland Guardians’ affiliate. As Go was preparing to take the mound in the seventh inning with his team trailing 2-3, umpires conducted a substance check. Go was immediately ejected without throwing a single pitch.

Two days after the incident, Go received a 10-game suspension, retroactive to July 26.

Go promptly announced his intention to appeal the suspension. In a social media post, he argued that the substance on his glove was not intentionally applied but rather a result of sweat and rosin hardening over time.

Go stated that he used this glove in every game since the World Baseball Classic without any issues. The substance in question is so hardened that it would require significant force with a fingernail to remove. He’s certain it couldn’t have affected his pitching performance.

While the specific reasons for the reduction in Go’s suspension haven’t been disclosed, it appears his appeal may have played a role in the decision.

With the shortened suspension, Go will be able to return to the mound earlier than initially expected.
