The movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, has drawn 4 million viewers in just seven days. In North America, it raked in 360.9 million USD during its opening weekend, surpassing Avengers: Endgame’s debut of 357 million USD. This blockbuster success has reinvigorated the superhero genre, proving its enduring appeal despite recent market fatigue.

According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system, Spider-Man: Brand New Day maintained its top spot at the box office on August 4, attracting 348,262 viewers in a single day. The film’s total audience count has now reached an impressive 4,134,154.

In South Korea, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the fastest film of the year to hit the 4 million viewer mark. It achieved this milestone in just seven days, outpacing Colony (14 days) and Hope (19 days).

The film’s performance is breaking records not only in South Korea but globally. Its 360.9 million USD North American opening weekend set a new all-time high for the market. Only Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Endgame have ever crossed the 300 million USD threshold in their North American debuts.

Globally, Spider-Man: Brand New Day amassed a staggering 932.09 million USD in its opening weekend. This places it second only to Avengers: Endgame, which grossed 1.2 billion USD in its debut weekend.

Variety, the renowned entertainment industry publication, reports that with overwhelmingly positive word-of-mouth and minimal competition, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is poised to dominate theaters for the remainder of the summer. The outlet predicts the film will easily surpass 2 billion USD in global box office revenue. To date, only seven films have achieved this feat: Avatar (2009), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), Ne Zha 2 (2025), Titanic (1997), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), and Avengers: Infinity War (2018).

While superhero fatigue has set in recently, particularly for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films following Avengers: Endgame (2019), the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man series, affectionately dubbed Tomspa by fans, has consistently bucked this trend. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) drew 7.25 million viewers, Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) attracted 8.02 million, and even during the pandemic, Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) pulled in 7.55 million viewers.

With Spider-Man: Brand New Day now enjoying a robust box office run, all eyes are on the next MCU offering, Avengers: Doomsday, set for a December release. The highly anticipated return of Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man has fans buzzing. Industry watchers are keen to see if it can match the record-breaking success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and potentially revitalize the superhero genre.
