“DTF St. Louis” clinched the coveted Emmy for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, while the much-anticipated “Beef” (Season 2) came up empty-handed.
The star-studded ceremony unfolded at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday morning. HBO’s “DTF St. Louis” emerged victorious in the fiercely competitive Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series category.
The category boasted a stellar lineup of nominees, including Peacock’s “A Friend of the Family: True Evil,” Netflix’s “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” Netflix’s “Beef” (Season 2), and FX’s “Fleishman Is in Trouble.”
The Emmy Awards are split into two main events: the Primetime Emmys, which honor excellence in acting and directing for miniseries and dramas, and the Creative Arts Emmys, which celebrate the unsung heroes behind the scenes. In industry parlance, Emmys typically refers to the glitzier Primetime ceremony.
This year marked a shift in the awards’ format. Previously, the Creative Arts Emmys preceded the Primetime event by a week. However, the 2026 edition saw the introduction of Emmy Night, a consolidated showcase that merged the Creative Arts Emmys with the presentations for Supporting and Guest Actor/Actress categories in Miniseries, television (TV) Movies, and Comedy/Drama Series. The Emmy Night festivities, held on September 5 and 6, were taped for a special broadcast that aired on September 13.
“Beef” Season 2 racked up an impressive array of nominations, including nods for Outstanding Limited Series, Lead Actor (Oscar Isaac), Lead Actress (Carey Mulligan), Supporting Actor (Charles Melton), Supporting Actress (Youn Yuh Jung), Directing, Writing, Casting, Cinematography, and Costume Design.
Helmed by Korean-American wunderkind Lee Sung Jin, “Beef” Season 2 is a razor-sharp eight-episode Netflix series that dropped in April. The dark comedy follows the escalating feud between two strangers after a road rage incident, exploring themes of class, identity, and the American Dream through the lens of a Korean-American tech entrepreneur and a struggling contractor.
Screen legend Youn Yuh Jung graced the series as Chairwoman Park, a mysterious elderly woman with ties to one of the main characters. Despite her Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, Youn didn’t take home the trophy this time around.
