Jon Rahm to Leave LIV Golf After Season, Could He Return to PGA Tour?

LifestyleJon Rahm to Leave LIV Golf After Season, Could He Return to PGA Tour?

Two-time major champion Jon Rahm of Spain will part ways with LIV Golf at the end of this season. With his future no longer tied to LIV Golf, attention is turning to whether he could return to the PGA Tour.

ESPN reported on the 8th, citing Rahm’s representative, attorney John Beck, that Rahm decided not to participate in LIV Golf in the future after reviewing the terms proposed by the league.

The attorney said Rahm and LIV Golf are working to finalize a separation agreement by Oct. 15.

Rahm’s departure is expected to be a major blow to LIV Golf as the league seeks a new path without funding from Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund.

Rahm, who previously reached No. 1 in the world rankings, left the PGA Tour and joined LIV Golf at the end of 2023. At the time, he was reportedly offered a multiyear contract worth more than $300 million.

Since then, Rahm has won four LIV Golf titles and finished as the league’s individual season champion in each of the past three seasons.

However, a sudden financial crisis changed the situation.

After the Saudi sovereign wealth fund that had funded LIV Golf cut off its support, the league faced severe financial difficulties and eventually filed for bankruptcy protection.

As a result, star players including Rahm, fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia and American Patrick Reed have announced their departures, with a string of top players leaving LIV Golf.

For now, it is unclear which events Rahm will play in next year. A return to the PGA Tour is also being considered.

However, PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp has said the tour does not plan to reinstate its “returning member program,” which allowed players to return to the PGA Tour if they met certain conditions, leaving Rahm’s potential comeback uncertain.

Earlier this year, the PGA Tour allowed American Brooks Koepka to return after he ended his contract with LIV Golf through the program.
