Pak In-chol, Chairman of North Korea’s Supreme People’s Assembly, attended the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva, Switzerland, where he met with representatives from four countries, including Russia, and condemned the coercion and arbitrary actions of imperialists.

The official newspaper of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Rodong Sinmun, reported on its third page on August 3 that Chairman Pak and the North Korean delegation participated in the conference from July 29 to 31.

According to the newspaper, Chairman Pak denounced the coercion and arbitrary actions of imperialists who plunge the world into social instability and chaos in an effort to preserve their monopolistic and hegemonic positions. He also met with the Chairman of the Russian Federation Council, reaffirming the alliance and fraternal relationship between the two countries. However, it appears that there were no encounters with Woo Won-shik, the Speaker of South Korea’s National Assembly, or Zhao Leji, the Chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress.

The front page featured an article titled, Let Us Love Our Country, Founded on the Blood of the First Generation of the Revolution, and Illuminate It to the World, in anticipation of the 80th anniversary of Nation Liberation Day of Korea (August 15). The paper emphasized the importance of remembering the noble patriotism and the spirit of the anti-Japanese revolutionary heroes who achieved national liberation.

Page 2 also published an article commemorating the 80th anniversary of liberation, titled, Honoring the Great Benefactor of National Liberation, the Unrivaled Patriot, praising Kim Il Sung, the State President. The newspaper urged citizens to maintain an unwavering belief that victory is assured as long as the esteemed General Secretary Kim Jong Un is at the helm, thereby reinforcing the people’s loyalty.

Page 4 reported that various sectors of the people’s economy met their targets last month, emphasizing the need to accelerate the pace of innovation and transformation to successfully conclude the five-year plan. The newspaper noted that all sectors—from major industrial complexes such as the Chollima Iron and Steel Complex and Musan Mining Complex to coastal aquaculture sites—are intensifying their production efforts.

Page 5 featured an article titled, The Joyful Laughter of the People Resounds in the Cultural Retreats Provided by the Party, depicting summer vacation scenes of citizens visiting various recreational sites such as the Wonsan Kalma Coastal Tourist Area, Munsu Water Park, Rungna Water Park, Amnok River Park, Hamheung Water Park, and the Ara West Sea Lock Beach.

Page 6 published an article titled, NATO’s Military Spending Increase Fuels an Arms Race and Heightens Confrontation, criticizing the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member countries for raising their military expenditures to 55% of global military spending. The paper argued that such actions not only threaten Russia with war but also undermine international efforts for peace.
