On Sunday, North Korea celebrated Mother’s Day by highlighting Kim Jong Un’s women-centric policies and urging mothers to demonstrate dedication and loyalty to the state.
The Workers’ Party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, published an article titled “The Great Embrace Enveloping the Nation’s 7 Million Mothers.” It claimed that the country’s seven million mothers lead fulfilling lives and play a crucial role in advancing the nation’s mission. The paper attributed this to General Secretary Kim’s emphasis on elevating the status and rights of mothers to unprecedented levels.
The newspaper stressed that mothers find happiness in a society that values women and cherishes motherhood, while asserting that misfortune stems from political climates that devalue women and outdated norms that restrict mothers.
The article praised Kim Jong Un’s leadership, stating that his consideration for the well-being of mothers and guidance for their success serves as an enduring example, inspiring workers and officials to devote themselves to serving the people.
On page two, under the headline “The Proud Figures of Mothers Dedicated to the Nation and Future Generations,” the paper showcased the achievements of women across various sectors. It reported that, over the past five years, many women have been recognized as heroes, earned doctoral degrees, or received the Communist Mother Honor Award.
Page three featured an article titled “We Take Pride in Our Mothers,” emphasizing mothers’ awareness of their critical role in national development and portraying them as key figures in fostering a harmonious society.
North Korea established Mother’s Day on November 16, 1961, commemorating Kim Il Sung’s remarks at the First National Conference of Mothers. He declared that becoming a communist mother is equivalent to becoming a builder of socialism.
