
Chinese President Xi Jinping, who made a state visit to North Korea from June 8 to 9, assessed that Sino-North Korean relations have entered a new historical phase.
According to the Rodong Sinmun, North Korea’s ruling party newspaper, on Wednesday, President Xi sent a letter of appreciation with this message to Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the previous day.
In his letter, Xi expressed heartfelt gratitude for the warm and enthusiastic welcome extended by General Secretary Kim, First Lady Ri Sol Ju, and the North Korean people to the Chinese delegation, stating that it clearly demonstrated the deep friendship between the two parties and nations.
He noted that the in-depth exchange of views on matters of mutual interest between himself and General Secretary Kim has added new historical significance to the China-North Korea relationship. Xi emphasized that both sides have shown a strong commitment to enhancing traditional friendship, promoting mutual development and prosperity, and safeguarding regional and global peace and stability.
Xi stated that he’s satisfied with the outcomes of the visit, declaring that Sino-North Korean relations have entered a new historical journey.
He continued that by firmly grasping the trends of the times and basing the actions on the fundamental and long-term interests of both countries, it will continuously protect, strengthen, and develop China-North Korea relations. This will drive powerful progress in the socialist cause of both nations. Xi emphasized his willingness to improve the welfare of both countries’ citizens and make greater contributions to global peace and development.
Xi expressed his hope to meet with General Secretary Kim again, wishing for the China-North Korea friendship to be passed down through generations and remain eternally strong.
After arriving in Pyongyang on Monday, Xi completed his two-day visit and returned home the following day. This visit marked his first trip to North Korea in four years, since 2019.
During the summit, Xi stated that it must further expand and energize friendly exchanges at all levels and in all sectors between our two parties, deepening the exchange of experiences in party building and governance. He particularly emphasized the need to strengthen exchanges in diplomacy, law enforcement, and military affairs.
General Secretary Kim also defined the North Korea-China relationship as the state’s most significant strategic priority, pledging to support the One China principle and further solidify ties between the two countries.
